Hamburg-based Private Equity Firm making control investments in middle market companies is seeking a dynamic Private Equity Associate (m/f) to join its team. The firm invests in companies throughout Europe in diversified industries. With the first close on its new fund just completed, the firm is seeking an Associate to support its investment process.

The position is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious professional passionate about private equity investing. Qualified candidates will be highly motivated and talented professionals who thrive in a small team environment, possess strong analytical, business and communication skills, demonstrate efficient organization and time management skills, and have an enthusiastic personality. The Associate will be accountable for delivering accurate, complete and timely detailed investment analyses to the investment team; be adept at handling ambiguous tasks/responsibilities, and able to work with minimal direction when needed. Position will report directly to the Partners and will have the opportunity to take on increasing amounts of responsibility.

Your responsibilities:

  • Evaluating new investment proposals for their risks and likely returns, driven principally by a detailed financial analysis
  • Driving the due diligence and transaction process for new investment opportunities
  • Preparing the internal investment analysis and performing detailed financial modeling
  • Identifying key business issues/concerns for each investment and ways to resolve/mitigate
  • Communicating with various 3rd parties (brokers, industry professionals, etc.) regarding the firm’s investment criteria and obtaining information related to new investment opportunities
  • Interacting/hosting calls with management teams and deal intermediaries
  • Reviewing and summarizing company and industry information when evaluating new investment proposals and preparing presentations
  • Preparing/presenting succinct weekly transaction updates to the partners

Your profile:

  • Associate candidates have obtained their (post)graduate degree with a strong GPA and have at least two years of investment banking, private equity or consulting work experience
  • Familiarity with middle market private equity transactions
  • Solid understanding of key transaction processes and key negotiating points in legal and financing processes
  • Excellent analytical and Excel modeling skills
  • Experience preparing detailed financial models and company business valuations (including LBO, valuation techniques, organizing trial balances, merger and roll-up models, and ad-hoc Excel analysis)
  • Proactive, a self-starter and strong attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative problem solving capability
  • Strong work ethic/integrity and excellent attitude
  • Above average pace of work while maintaining accuracy
  • Meeting deadlines on a timely basis and completing analyses within set timelines
  • Self-disciplined with strong sense of urgency and commitment to producing high quality work
  • Effectively manages and prioritizes multiple projects
  • Works independently with a wide variety of people, including internal and external clients
  • Works collaboratively and thrives in a small team environment
  • Native German speaker with fluency in English
